Marriage or couple counseling is the meeting of the couple with a qualified therapist to help the couple understand and resolve conflicts, solve problems, improve communication, and develop other skills to improve their relationship. Sometimes the therapist will meet with the couple individually but most often together. The typical first session can focus on getting a detailed history of the couple, jumping in to discuss problems with which the couple is currently struggling, or a combination of both. Couple counseling is typically short-term. You may only need a few sessions to help you get past your current difficulties. Sometimes several months is required for more complex issues or if several issues are confronting the couple. Typically you will meet with your therapist once a week. < Back | ||
